The tree of life is a metaphor for understanding evolution, which is an exploration of possibilities. Branches often arise through migration, as a population splits off and goes its own way. Human evolution owes everything to migration—to movement—in pursuit of the most suitable habitats. Even today, migration is a structural phenomenon that will continue to grow in the coming years. The freedom to migrate and the right to remain in the land where one was born are the two complementary values that must be defended in the 21st century.
