In Borges’s short stories, you can see a little bit of everything—about our present and our future. But rereading “The Library of Babel” today, in this era of rampant artificial intelligence, conveys a true sense of prophecy. It’s a candid reflection on the fate of words, symbols, stories, and inspiration in the age of infinite artificial libraries.

Biography

Paolo Giordano was born in Turin in 1982. He holds a Ph.D. in physics and is the author of five novels: The Solitude of Prime Numbers (Mondadori 2008, winner of the Strega Prize and the Campiello Prize for a Debut Novel), The Human Body (Mondadori 2012), Black and Silver (Einaudi 2014 and 2017), Devouring the Sky (Einaudi 2018 and 2019), and Tasmania (Einaudi 2022, Readers’ Choice Award). He has also published the essay Nel contagio (2020) for Einaudi and edited Da vicino. Raccontare la guerra oggi (2026). He has written for film (Siccità, We Are Who We Are) and theater (Galois, Fine pena: ora). Ossigeno and In viaggio non pregare (produced in collaboration with Emergency) are his first podcasts, both produced by Chora Media. He is a contributor to Corriere della Sera.
